Brown Deer School Field House

Brown Deer, WI
When the Brown Deer School District needed a new field house, the district and design team knew they wanted more than a large box. The new 42,000 square foot structure utilized precast concrete to “dress up” the structure. Inspired by rays of sunlight that are part of the school’s logo, colorful patterns are featured on the insulated architectural precast panels, which alternate with structural panels on the exterior. Panels have an acid wash finish and include three different colors – buff, tan, and dark brown. This required pouring one mix at a time, laying down insulation, and placing insulation pins before the first mix set up. Workers had just 45 minutes from the time the first mix was poured to place the insulation pins. Panels are staggered in and out further breaking the box and allowing slots of glass which bring in daylight.
