Glen Ellyn Civic Center Parking Structure
Glen Ellyn, IL
When Glen Ellyn, Ill. was facing a parking shortage, the village identified a possible solution to this problem in an unused plot of land behind the civic center. The site had a zero-lot line and abutted the civic center, a residential area, restaurants, hair salons, government buildings, and a dance studio, so site disruption would have to be kept to a minimum. Additionally, there was only one access point to the site and the structure would need to match the local architecture.
Jointly with Wells Concrete, a five-level parking garage built with precast concrete wall panels and a double-tee flooring system was the solution. Precast was erected in just six weeks on the site. The panels, manufactured by ICP, featured thin-set brick in horizontal running bonds with dramatic cornices and floral leaf patterns that mimic the adjacent civic center. Brick accents had a basketweave pattern rotated at 45-degrees.
This project was a 2022 Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute Design Awards Winner.
